If you have ever been to Portland Oregon, you may think we only wear raincoats and galoshes and the only accessory we carry is an umbrella. You are right if you are on the streets of PDX walking around at lunchtime in the middle of Winter, Fall or Spring. (Believe it or not there are a few weeks in Summertime that we can actually peel a few layers off and show some skin.)
On a recent trip back to Portland I had the opportunity to attend (and work it seems) a Christmas Gift Show held at the Convention Center. Luckily, I had my cell phone, because I caught a few looks that stood out of the crowd. This particular day was a typical Winter, foggy rainy day in Rosetown so we were all quite snug in our outerwear. But after peeling off a layer or two, these are the looks I came across

This chick had an aviator motorcycle vibe going on.  I really liked her boots and wish the camera could have caught a better image. She didn't stand still for very long and I liked the back of her outfit better than the look from the front, so I didn't bother stopping her. (Is that bad?)
I let a lot of people pass before I realized I could be catching them on camera! (I forgot my new phone has a decent picture to it)

One lady I made sure I stopped was this one. She and her friend were just shopping for presents for family members, but I really liked her outfit. It was one I would have worn myself. Here in Portland, denim reigns. You can layer with silk undergarments for warmth and the material provides a nice insulation against the wind. I loved the jacket that the lady with the denim had on. It was a light image 3image 4denim fabric wtih a herringbone pattern and piping and detail pockets that stood out.  I loved it. I loved the double bright white stitching on the pants. It stands out and makes the jean pop. I like that fact that the woman rocking the outfit was also probably around to rock some hippy outfits in the late sixties or early seventies!

Her friend was as equally hip in her gorge green turtleneck that went great with her ginger hair. Her camel coat with oversize buttons on the cuff worked with the awesome boots she wore.  (Boots are also very big in  PDX)

As you can see, once again, I have focused on the bottom half of an outfit.  I liked how she had this thrown together with leggings and the boots were great. Loved her little Coach Bag.  Her sweater dress is great, but she had a baby and some bags slung across her chest and it ruined the great line I know the dress had when she put it on that morning so I focused on the bottom half.
All of these ladies were trying to get away from the typical gloom style of the Portland Winters, and add just a little bit of edge or imprint of themselves, but this bitch went beyond everything I had seen since I left LA.  When I saw her I thought, "Who is she trying to impress?!!" She came with her own driver and had someone push her around like she was Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra going down the Nile with RB in a barge! I was totally appalled (and a little jealous!)
Whoever she was, she pulled the look off like she was born into it! (I bet she has dressers that get her ready and do her hair. No one can pull this look off alone!)
