A new season of "Project Runway" begins this month.
By: Mitra Asgarinik
For the fashion obssessed, Wednesday nights will be spent glued to the television screen once again beginning November 14th. Bravo's Emmy nominated reality show, "Project Runway", starts its fourth season this month. If you have not been up to date with the hit show, "Runway" features 15 designers who battle it out to sew the top fashion garments.
Each episode poses a common
themed ?challenge? for the designers, in which they have a certain amount of
time, money to spend on materials, and guidelines to follow. The designers are
guided by former chair of the fashion department at Parsons and current chief
creative officer at Liz Claiborne, Tim Gunn. Each episode a winner and a loser
are chosen, and the loser gets cut from the show. The season finale showcases
the top three designers at New York Fashion Week and the top designer is chosen
to be the winner of Project Runway. The winner is awarded $100,000 to start
their own fashion line, their own section on Bluefly.com, a spread in Elle, and a hot 2008 Saturn Astra.
The show is hypnotic, and I
find myself diving for the remote when I get home so I can watch the newest
episode. Viewers develop emotions for each of the competing designers, and half
the fun of watching is the anticipation of your favorite designer winning the
episode and the snotty designer losing. If you are interested in fashion, then
?Project Runway? is the show for you. The show routinely is judged by Heidi
Klum along with designer Michael Kors, Elle
fashion director Nina Garcia, and a guest judge who is usually a known
designer, but is sometimes a fashion icon. The show is full of fresh new
designs that could influence the forecasts for upcoming seasons, and constantly
inspires a new wardrobe collection. Catch the new season, watch the designers
?make it work?, and get insight on new fashions.
