Appealing to men, women, teenagers, and children, H&M has fashionable clothes at affordable prices.
The company has more than 1,500 stores in 28 different countries (Wikipedia.Com), and keeps up with the current top fashions. Although not all states have an H&M store, you can still browse some of their fashions on their website, HandM.Com. Starting in February of 2008, a new line will be released by H&MM, called Fashion Against AIDS. The line is designed by a collaboration of hot celebrities, including Rhianna, Timbaland, and the members of Good Charlotte. The goal of this new line is to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS, a growing epidemic which has infected more than 33 million people to this day (Avert.Org, twelve million of the infected are ages fifteen to twenty-four. Every fifteen seconds, someone in that age group becomes infected with the virus (Yahoo.Com). Photo courtesy of Nitrolicious.Com. Photographers: John Scarisbrick and Daniel Jackson for H&M.
The celebreties' designs will appear on H&M t-shirts, tank tops, and hoodies, which will all be made from organic cotton. For each item purchased from this new line, twenty-five percent of the proceeds will go to HIV/AIDS prevention projects globally. The design will feature a print, and the neckline label houses the name of the designer. Even the hang tag on the garment has a statement, reading, "This might be the most important piece of clothing you've ever had your hands on." Good Charlotte's design features a young couple under a red umbrella, whereas Katharine Hamnett's design displays "Use a condom!" scripted in big, black, block lettering. Henrick Vibskov's print states, "Be aware. It's still happening." The prices of the garment will range from $12.90 - $34.90.
Other celebrities like Jade Jagger, Scissor Sisters, The Cardigans, Ziggy Marley, and Rufus Wainright have also contributed to Fashion against AIDS.
Designers Against AIDS is a non-profit organization that hopes to mold public opinion through the teaming up of fashion designers, musicians, and other artists. The founder of Designers Against AIDS, Ninette Murk, expresses an urgent need to target the stated group of young people, ages fifteen through twenty-four. "By combining fashion with music" Murk commented, "we hope to get these young people to 'Stop and Think' ".
