Sass & Bide: New York Fashion Week Fall 2008
Sunday, 10 February 2008

Dedicated to the memory of a beloved friend, Sass and Bide brought the promenade to life with their Fall/Winter 2008 collection, which featured a rainbow theme.

By: Mitra Asgarinik

Considering this underlying theme, the collection was prominent in colorful, girly embellishments that mimicked a rainbow.

The duo designer team, Heidi Middleton (Bide) and Sarah-Jane Clarke (Sass), made the garments their canvas and added the perfect amounts of color and glamour. The pieces featured girly bubble hems, rainbow sequin trims and embellishments, and many geometric patterns. A common feature among designers this season, Sass and Bide included lavish ruffles along the trims, hems, and arms of their garments. Most of the pieces were short and flirty, and paired with shimmering tight black leggings. The show had distinct transitions and sub-themes, shifting from plaid, to sequins, to a bubble garnish.

To add to Sass and Bide’s fun, flirty feel, the hair and makeup was inspired by a 1940s, funky Halloween style, said Carol Miranda. Complicated hairstyles were embellished with feathers, birds, and quaint mad hatteresque hats. The makeup was minimal, and centered about mauve tones. The majority of makeup used was of a creamy base; the goal of the makeup artists was to accentuate the color of the clothing, the colors of life and all good things. Above all, Sass and Bide wanted to give off a good feel, which the Sass and Bide woman would definitely feel.
